What we've been up to...

Ok...so 4 months between posts is perfectly adequate...right. Ok its been a CrAzY few months, which has attributed to a lack of blogging. Brinley started 1st grade, and is kicking its butt! I am super duper proud of her. She is so amazingly smart, that most days I think she was switched at birth. There is no way my child is that smart...she must get that from Brad. She is learning things in 1st grade that I remember learning in at least 3rd grade. Brad is still getting along. He had a spinal fusion on Sept 19, and has been slowly recovering from that. He feels better most days, but when the weather changes, he now can really feel it. I am still working working working. Between Brad being off for 8 weeks with his back and Christmas rapidly approaching, I have been working full time at the UHP and then pulling 3 shifts per week on the ambulance. Needless to say by 9pm at night I am tired! But it has all been worth it because...we bought a new car!! After Brad's surgery, we quickly realized that my little car was too uncomfortable for him to ride in, and quite frankly we HATED it! So, after much thought, prayers and budgeting, we now own a 2009 Nissan Murano!

Its pretty and has all the bells and whistles that we had on our want/need list as well as a whole lot more. Its really funny both Brad and I love it so much, we have had to work out a schedule on who gets to drive it on which days...but it is the first time in our marriage that we have both agreed whole heartily on a car and not had any regrets. It was sad though, Brinley cried when we left the dealership in the new car, because she missed the old one... it broke my heart, but we showed her all of the fun features of the new car, and told her that her memories of the old car couldn't be taken away from her. With that, and a happy meal and ice cream, she is dealing fine. (yes I know I am a parent that is well into bribery to get smiles)

On Thursday August 18, we lost our dear Mother & Grandmother, Gayle Peters. While our hearts are hurting at her loss, we are comforted by our knowledge that she is in a better place, where she is no longer in pain.

GAYLE BURKE PETERS BRIGHAM CITY - Gayle Burke Peters, 69, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Ogden Regional Medical Center of pneumonia surrounded by family. Mom was born on April 14, 1942 in Brigham City, Utah, to Tolman and Maudell Seager Burke. She grew up in Honeyville, graduated from Box Elder High School in 1960, and from Steven Henager's Business College. She married her sweetheart Ferrell Aaron Peters in the Logan LDS Temple on August 3, 1962. Mom held many church callings throughout her life but she was known best for her kindness and service to others. Mom made beautiful quilts for each of her grandkids and baby blankets for all the newborns in the Brigham City 20th Ward. She loved cross stitch, crochet, gardening, going to movies and most of all spending time with family. Mom kept a positive attitude through her health trials. This was her favorite quote and one she exemplified throughout her life: "I am determined to be happy in whatever situation I may be -- for I have learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions and not our circumstances." Surviving is her husband, Ferrell, Brigham City; Kristine (Mark) Adams, Pleasant View; Ruth (Nathan) Christensen, North Ogden; Bradley (Amanda) Peters, Brigham City; 8 grandchildren; one great grandson; one brother, Reed (Barbara) Burke, Brigham City; one sister, Diane Burke, Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents. Special thanks to ORMC ICU and Tammy and Fred at Alpine Hospice. In lieu of flowers you can make donations to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Brigham City LDS 20th Ward Chapel, 650 Anderson Drive. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City and on Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.

Holy Cow! Has it really been this long since I have posted anything about my family. Holy crap! I am totally sucking at this. Well, here's a quick update.

~Brinley is growing like a weed! She is about 1/2 way through Kindergarten, and is loving it! Her teacher said at Parent Teacher Conferences, that she never thought that Brinley was so dramatic, because when she first met her, she was so quiet! I laughed and laughed!

~Brad is still working a Fresenius, and doesn't mind it most days. He gets shuffled around a lot because he is a stickler for good work and he always pulls in the numbers the company wants.

~Me! Still working and working some more. I just passed my 1 year Anniversary with the Highway Patrol, and still loving every minute of it. I am also still working the ambulance on my days off, and am supposed to re-certify in a few weeks, but I keep procrastinating on taking the test.

Well that's a quick update on our family!

Kindergarten Check-up

We had the awesome opportunity to take Miss Brinley to the Dr for her kindergarten checkup this past week. While the end result (3 shots) we no fun for her, Brad and I sure got a laugh. For those of you who don't have small kids, before the Dr see you, they get your height, weight, and test your eye sight. Miss B aced the height and weight, for those of you keeping track she is 35lbs and 41inches tall! Still a bit small weight wise for her age, but still on her growing curve.

Anyway, I digress... The nurse was checking her eyesight, by having her cover one of her eyes and say the shape that the nurse pointed to... Here is how the test went,
Nurse points to a star, "What shape is this?"
Miss B, "A Star"
Nurse points to a hand, "What shape is this?"
Miss B, "A Hand"
Nurse points to a star, "What shape is this?"
Miss B, "A Star!"
Nurse points to a moon, "What shape is this?"
Miss B, "A crescent!"
Nurse looks confused, "No sorry honey it is a moon...oh wait...you're right!"
Me trying to hide my laughter "Good job Brinley, you're smarter than the nurse!"

S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G

So this past weekend we have been working with Brinley on learning how to spell different words. We have been using pictures, cards and a new toy to help her learn a lot of 3 letter words. I must admit that she is catching on very fast!! I am so proud! She knows MoM!! She is super excited about that one! (me too I must admit!) So as we were sitting around the dinner table last night, we were quizzing her on how to spell different words, here is how the conversation went.
Me: Brinley how do you spell mom?
Brinley: M-O-M
Me: Awesome!! How do you spell cat?
Brinley: Meow. *giggling* C-A-T
Me: (very excited) Great! How do you spell dad?
Brinley: O-D-D
Me: laughing hysterically!
